Walk quietly in the woods. Listen to the sounds around you. There is an orchestra of nature’s music all around. Look closely in the brush and tree line. You are not alone.
This is my favorite activity. To walk along and see what things I can spot hiding in the underbrush or spying a little creature going about it’s day as if I do not exist. This time of year is the best. The fresh clean air in the mornings. The cool damp air brushing against my skin, cooling it as I walk. What a gift to cherish.
When I was young I loved to bury myself in a mound of leaves freshly raked from the yard. I could lay there for hours smelling the aroma given off by the leaves as I crushed them with my body weight.
In today’s world these are things that can replenish my soul. Being in nature takes me away from what is happening that is not so healing in the world around us. Times are changing. We have heard that song many times. People are angry, judgemental, hostile, frightened, envious, hateful, kind, caring, forgiving, and loving. We are a great mix of emotions that we choose to embrace.
Take a moment to let go of any of the feelings that are holding you prisoner. When was the last time you felt peaceful in this world. We have so much, yet we want so much more. Stop. Breathe. Look at the beauty around you even if it is just the person beside you.
When we allow ourselves to feel peaceful we let go of all the other emotions that are holding us down. Everyday is another chance to feel better about ourselves, and by feeling better about ourselves, we can create a better place to be.
There is a verse I have written down, it reads “we are the directors of our lives.” and we are. If we choose to be angry and hateful then that is what our life will be like. That is what we will create, a life filled with anger and hatred because we can’t see it any other way.
If we choose to surround ourselves with caring people we might start caring as well. We first have to know what it feels like to let go, to release the anger and hatred. We have to make a conscious effort to open ourselves to that feeling of peace. That is why nature is so important for me. It allows me to move out of myself and just be present in the moment with the world.
There are so many wonderful, beautiful, moving, flowing things in nature, and in life to help us refresh and rejuvenate. We just have to search them out, and then take advantage of their gift.
If nature doesn’t do it for you then let a wave of music flow over and through you relaxing and releasing all the pent up tension you have been feeling. It really is intoxicating.
If it is food, sit back and taste every wonderful crumb. And, if it is the world of art, yours or someone else’s then lose yourself in the moment. Each moment counts.
Another favorite saying of mine is ” Our thoughts create our lives” the good, the bad, and the ugly. So for today “think” then do something that will help you feel wonderfully at peace. And, have a great day.
